What Is Precognition?
Precognition is the intuitive ability to sense something before it happens. It’s an awareness of a future event or outcome before there’s any logical way to know it. It might come as a gut feeling, a dream, an image, a knowing or a subtle shift in energy.
It’s not always dramatic or cinematic. Sometimes it’s a quiet nudge that something’s off. Sometimes it’s a strong certainty that something will unfold, even if you can’t explain how you know.
Two Kinds of Precognition
Receptive precognition
This is the kind most people have experienced. The information just comes in, through dreams, emotional impressions, body cues or sudden downloads. You don’t try. It just happens.
Active precognition
Precognition can also be intentional. In a reading, you can consciously tune into someone’s timeline to see where the energy is headed. You’re not predicting one fixed future. You’re reading a likely outcome based on the energy in motion: how their choices, patterns and alignment are shaping the path ahead. This is a skill you can develop and refine.
The Future Isn’t Fixed
Here’s the thing about precognition: it isn’t about predicting every event. In my experience, it’s a guide, more of a direction than a guarantee. You can’t read everything about the future. (Did anyone see 2020 coming?) And what you see can change, because people change.
There’s a lot of pressure on precognition to give us all the answers. If you could read the future, you’d know exactly what to do, right? You’d know when the money or the love was coming. But when you try to control precognition that way, it usually shuts down. Where it really helps is in showing you what’s in your way, what to look out for, and where your energy is already heading.
My Own Experience
For about 20 years, I had maybe ten moments where I knew something was going to happen. I thought they were cool and helpful, and that was it. I didn’t think of precognition as something to develop. As a psychic, I trusted I’d get the information I needed when I needed it.
Then I started teaching trainings that move through time, like reading past lives and timelines. Without meaning to, I started reading people’s futures in my readings, just by following their timeline forward. And the more I asked to see, the more unasked-for insights showed up too. In 2022, I joined a precognition research project, and it finally clicked: precognition is a skill. (Duh!) That’s what got me excited to teach it.
Signs Your Precognition Is Already Working
You’ve had dreams that later came true, in big or small ways.
You get a feeling about how something will turn out, and you’re right.
You think of a song, a person or a word right before it shows up.
You’ve had a sense of dread or excitement before you knew why.
You often experience déjà vu.
You “knew” about a change before anyone told you.
What Gets in the Way
Precognition carries a lot of charge. Many people hold back without realizing it because of:
Fear of being wrong, or of being responsible for what you say.
Pressure to get it right or to have all the answers.
Old family, cultural or religious beliefs that it’s not okay to see the future.
A sense, maybe from long ago, that it wasn’t safe to speak up about what you saw.
Clearing that energy is often what opens the ability up.
How to Develop Precognition
Keep a journal
Write down dreams, hunches and knowings, then check back. A big part of waking up an ability is putting your attention on it, and validation builds trust.
Let go of needing answers
Approach precognition with curiosity instead of demand. The less you grip it, the more it comes through.
Get neutral
Ground and move into the center of your head before you look ahead. Reading from neutral keeps your hopes and fears from writing the story.
Read from the now
Start with where the energy is now, then look at where it’s going: next week, next month, next season. That’s how active precognition works.
Quick Answers
Is precognition real?
Many people have had a dream or a feeling that came true. We see precognition as a natural intuitive ability that anyone can learn to recognize and develop.
Can the future change once you see it?
Yes. Precognition reads where energy is heading, not a fixed outcome. That’s good news. It means you can use what you see to make different choices.
What’s the difference between precognition and claircognizance?
Claircognizance is clear knowing about anything. Precognition is specifically knowing something about the future, and it can come through knowing, seeing, feeling or dreams.
Where to Start
Precognition is an advanced skill, so the path starts with our year-long Intuitive Training, where you learn to read energy clearly and neutrally. Graduates can then take Precognition, a five-week class with me where you learn to recognize your own signals, from gut feelings to vivid dreams, and tell meaningful insights from everyday thoughts. In Precognition 2, you start using it as an active tool, working with your own timing system to create your life, not just predict what’s ahead. Explore related abilities on the Clairs page.
